Last month we were excited to welcome Gemma to the Drakes, Plymouth team. As the new face of the store, we thought it was only fair to put her under the spotlight so you could get to know our new manager.
How long have you worked in the jewellery industry?
For over 18 years! I started in the Plymouth jewellery industry when I was 17 as a full time sales assistant and I’ve loved it so much I’ve never wanted to do anything else apart from work with jewellery!
What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?
I am most looking forward to working with a positive and enthusiastic team who are passionate about jewellery. I am excited about meeting all of our customers and sharing with them the extensive range of pieces we handpick to sell in store.
What attracted you to Drakes?
Drakes, Plymouth is a well-established, family-run, independent company that have expanded within the industry to accommodate the modern lifestyle, whilst still keeping the same traditional values that our customers love so much!
Favourite pieces in store right now?
Swarovski’s Edify Pierced Earrings. I love how modern Swarovski are going with their new pieces at the moment. These beautiful earring jackets are really on trend and definitely on my Drakes wish list!
Daniel Wellington’s Classic Petite 32mm Bondi Watch. Everyone needs a good timepiece or two and I’m very happy to have added this to my Summer collection!
Drakes’ Vintage Platinum Art Deco Style 1.74ct Diamond Ring. I am a huge fan of vintage jewellery! It’s one of my biggest passions so I particularly love modern pieces that are recreated in a vintage design.
What’s your top tip for caring for your jewellery?
Maintaining your treasured jewellery is so important. Having it regularly cleaned and checked by a professional goldsmith will ensure that your jewellery piece will remain looking and wearing the best way it possibly can.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
I love keeping active. I spend a lot of time, come rain or shine, out walking my beady-eyed little dachshund, Louie! He always puts a smile on my face and never refuses a cuddle.
What do you love about Plymouth?
I love that we have everything on our doorstep. Great coastlines and beaches, the vast expanse of Dartmoor and a vibrant, expanding city!
Tell us something we don’t know about you?
Most people will not realise that I am a huge Star Wars geek! I am obviously a fan of the original trilogy and was fortunate enough to be able to have my own piece of jewellery designed as the Millennium Falcon with the Rebel Alliance Emblem.
