Wedding Trends For 2016 and Beyond

Posted on August 15th, 2016

We’re over halfway through 2016 and we’re noticing some exciting new wedding trends.

As we move towards a mindset where couples are keen to show off more individual aspects of their personalities, this brings a new dawn of wedding trends and styles.

The Style

Wedding styling really comes down to individual tastes and likes, with couples keen to put their personal spin on romance and fun.

Eclectic Rocks. No matter the venue or the theme, we’re seeing a lot more couples creating an eclectic mix, when it comes to the wedding styling.

Whether this is due to both individuals having more of a say, or the fearless attitude to mixing all sorts of ‘what you love’ it’s certainly a winner.

Show us the light. Think back to when you try to achieve a romantic setting at home or out at a restaurant, it’s all about the ambience right?! Great wedding lighting is a sure fire way to create romantic ambience.

Wedding stylists are using pendant lighting with bare bulbs, chandeliers and candelabras to cast a dreamy, subtle glow.

Sitting pretty. Couples are moving away from the large round tables and more towards long, rectangular tables for a more relaxed approach.

Don’t forget to make sure you have comfy lounge areas for the evening reception and party.

The Cake

Metallic. Whilst the traditional wedding cake will never go out of style, even the most traditional bride will find it had to resist the beauty of the gold, silver or bronze detailing that’s a trend for 2016/17.

Add a subtle hint of glamour with gold flower detailing or copper stripes. It’s also a great way to mix ultra modern with a more classic ruffled look.

Get naked. Naked cakes continue to be a huge trend, with little to no frostin. They are dressed with berries and fruit in order to create a more contemporary approach.

They’re perfect for rustic and vintage wedding and are firmly here to stay as we go into 2017.

The Flowers

Freshly Picked. Wedding floral arrangements will all be centred around the right mix of style and simplicity for 2016/17. Couples seem to be requesting the ‘freshly picked bloom’ look and this works well no matter the theme.

Mix your centrepieces. Who says that all tables need to look the same? Certainly not the modern couples getting married in 2016/17. Don’t be scared to create an eclectic mix across each of your reception tables.

The Photography/Videography

Take it as it comes. The most popular form of wedding photography for 2016/17 is reportage. A true reportage photographer will capture the events as they happen in a candid and unobtrusive fashion. As a result they’ll also be some of the most magical moments too.

Action. Having said that, don’t be afraid to set up super fun, cool wedding photos that really capture you and your family. These are also images that tell a story and will last a lifetime.
